This design is one of several in a small series which Hodo created for Takemura.
Because there are almost certainly designs which remain to be documented, this series has not yet been assigned sequence numbers. For now the design is labeled with its original publication date taken from the left margin.
The Japanese caption does not mention the botanicals, but the composition includes only two kinds of plants:
Hardy Begonia, Begonia grandis, 秋海棠, しゅうかいどう, シュウカイドウ, shuu-kaidou, a Japanese native perennial. The Japanese name means literally 'autumn flowering-crabapple', which refers both to the bloom time and the typical white and/or pink flowers.
An unidentified tall variety of bamboo.
金雞鳥 kinkei-chou) lit. 'gold-fowl-bird' (today usually 錦鶏 kinkei lit. 'brocade-fowl') is Golden Pheasant, Chrysolophus pictus.
