This design is one of several in a small series which Hodo created for Takemura.
It is unusual in several ways. It is only one of two (the other being the horse) which does not include a title-caption. This design like others appearing late in the series is also unusual in having a light background version which has a different signature and seal combination from that used earlier.
Because there are almost certainly designs which remain to be documented, this series has not yet been assigned sequence numbers. For now the design is labeled with its original publication date taken from the left margin.
Since there is no caption, there is no guidance on the naming of the particular species.
However, in addition to both short and long grass, the only other kind of plant shown appears to be a wild Chrysanthemum, Chrysanthemum,
exact variety unknown. All chrysanthemums are called 菊, きく, キク, kiku
Of the two rabbits, one is an albino and the other has normal wild coloration. Presumably both are the Japanese Hare, Lepus brachyurus, or else possibly Domestic Rabbit Oryctolagus cuniculus. The general name for any lagomorph is 兎, うさぎ, ウサギ, usagi.
