Design History:
This woodblock print contains only text in English. It was primarily used to mark card stock intended for reprinted winter cards from sometime after WWII until Rakusan closed his studio. Rakusan produced a great many copies on at least two kinds of washi paper card stock. The copy illustrated has a subtle swirling pattern in the paper. The other (not illustrated) has an overprinted brocade design.

On the right side is a woodblock-printed greeting: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

On the left side is a woodblock-printed statement of authorship: This card is made by Artist Rakusan. Kyoto.

The identical woodblock-printed greeting portion was also sometimes used on souvenir print SP2-b:
