Design History:
This design was part of the original series of forty-eight designs completed by October 1931 and was also included in later reprintings. The example images were taken with different cameras. However, Version III copies typically do differ somewhat in printing technique and ink color from earlier version copies.

Unfortunately, the Version III copy illustrated here is not typical in that the colors are badly faded and the paper is mat-burned and toned. The paper in all versions was originally creamy white.

Species Illustrated:
The name Basketflower is used for a number of closely related species in the genus Centaurea, and it is uncertain which one is intended here. [Note also that the title-caption is spelled incorrectly for English.]

One of these other species, Centaurea cyanus, is used in a design in the Hodo/Takemura Floral Series (see below).
